MashCAP Handicaps
A player's MashCAP is the average of the best 40% of the rounds in their SGT Combo log. Adjusted is relative to the lowest player in the season and is used for each weeks' handicap application.
▶ Why does MashUp use a unique MashCAP instead of the COMBO handicap?
The aim of MashUp has always been to create a fair playing field in Simulator Golf using NET scoring. Over time there have been multiple changes to the way SGT calculates the COMBO handicap, and we've had to adjust each time.
Currently, the COMBO handicap creates an imbalance across players depending on how many total rounds a player has played. For example, a player with 20 rounds counts the average of their best 12 — that's 60% of their total. A player at 48 rounds counts the average of their best 16 — only 33%. We believe this creates unfair handicaps.
The USGA aims to keep roughly 40% of total rounds as the counting average. So our MashCAP formula takes each player's total rounds, finds the number that equals 40% of them, and averages those best rounds.
For example: at 20 rounds it averages the best 8; at 30 rounds, the best 12; at 48 rounds, the best 19.
